Manchester United may reportedly be forced to fork out millions more than previously expected to land Crystal Palace star Michael Olise this summer, thanks to a shrewd clause in his contract. Since his return from injury, Olise has starred alongside Eberechi Eze under Oliver Glasner and caught the attention of several Premier League rivals.

Olise came close to leaving Palace for Chelsea last summer, but penned a new deal at Selhurst Park and recent weeks has seen a dramatic uptick in form. The 22-year-old Frenchman has long been admired by United, who are seeking to bolster their attacking options next season.

Big-money signings Antony and Jadon Sancho have failed to make the desired impact at Old Trafford while Marcus Rashford has been unable to replicate his form of last season, causing INEOS and Sir Jim Ratcliffe to look at strengthening out wide.

However, the BBC claim that Palace have slapped a price tag in excess of £60million on Olise, with Eze handed the same valuation. Both signed long-term contracts this season but have release clauses that would prevent the Eagles from standing in a suitor’s way if paid.

Though such clauses are said to be very complex and any deal would require percentages paid to Olise’s former club Reading, Palace themselves and the player.

Chelsea were of the opinion that they had activated Olise’s release clause last season, but unsuccessfully lured the France Under-21 international to Stamford Bridge as Palace publicly announced that he would remain in south London via chairman Steve Parish’s social media account.

Olise is thought to be happy at Palace despite interest from United and would only entertain leaving for a club that promises to help demonstrate his considerable ability on the ball, playing on the front foot.

Former United striker Dwight Yorke recently called on Ratcliffe and co to raid Palace in what would be a sensational double signing. "Man United should go buy two Crystal Palace players right now, Eberechi Eze and Michael Olise, without a doubt,” Yorke told TVSportGuide. “Those two young boys are the players Man United need at the club right now.

"They're young, great talents and would improve the club. In two or three years time, they would be coming into the best part of their careers and they'd be integrated into the Man United side by then.

“Olise and Eze are proper players, they have some of the best potential I've ever seen. These two kids improve Man United's attack, without a shadow of a doubt. The deals should be done already, try chucking £80 million or something like that for both of them."
