Viral footage has shown the concerning role that Trent Alexander-Arnold played in Everton’s second goal against Liverpool on Wednesday. The Reds now have little hope of winning the Premier League title in Jurgen Klopp’s final season after a 2-0 defeat at Goodison Park.

Alexander-Arnold’s job appeared to be to defend the space at the back post. Klopp said afterwards that his players knew exactly where the ball was going to land at the set-piece, giving his players no defence for conceding the goal.

The right-back barely got off the ground to battle with Calvert-Lewin.
Alexander-Arnold resorted to a minor push on Calvert-Lewin in a desperate attempt to put the striker off his jump. But by that point, the Everton star was already heading the ball into Liverpool’s net.
Klopp felt that his players should have been more aware of Everton’s tendency to cross to the back post, a set-piece theme that has been familiar throughout the Toffees’ campaign. The German said: “I think everybody who is with Everton saw that goal already 20 times or something like that, that’s their routine. Everybody knows they put the ball there.
