Fans of ITV's For the Love of Dogs have pinpointed a "bad habit" of presenter Alison Hammond, which she inadvertently revealed in the new series.

The popular programme made a comeback on our screens on Tuesday night (April 23) with new host Hammond at the helm. She assumed the role from the late Paul O'Grady, whose tragic death last year was announced in a shocking statement by his husband.

Following the show's grand return last week, Alison received a tepid response from viewers as she revisited Battersea Dogs and Cats Home. However, the This Morning host returned in the latest episode of the show to meet more furry friends in need of a new home.

Audiences watched as she encountered a lurcher who had been discovered tied up in a cemetery and required emergency surgery to treat several injuries. She also met a French bulldog who was extremely stressed due to breathing difficulties, and a Bichon Frise with matted hair that desperately needed grooming.

However, aside from the adorable four-legged companions, fans gradually grew more irritated with Alison as she allowed one of her "bad habits" to surface. This manifested in her use of the term "babs" throughout the show, reports the Mirror.

One exasperated fan implored: "Cut out the babs Alison, I hate it when anyone says that."

A second viewer chimed in: "If she says Babs again, I'm going to swear, I warn you now! ".

The Brummie lass, famed for her heartwarming charm and friendly demeanour, first captured the nation's attention on Big Brother in 2002. Following her departure from the reality TV house, she quickly secured a coveted role on This Morning, swiftly becoming a darling of the daytime audience.

Yet, despite her popularity, recent statistics have shown a slump in viewership for This Morning since Alison Hammond took over as host. The Sun reports that the inaugural episode under her guidance drew an average of 1.8 million viewers, with a peak at just 2 million.

These numbers are starkly overshadowed by those achieved during Paul O'Grady's tenure, where ratings frequently soared to nearly double that figure. Nonetheless, Alison has faced the backlash with resilience after stepping into the spotlight as the show's new face.

In a candid interview with The Sun's TV Mag, she addressed the criticism: "I was actually surprised with how much I got for doing the show. I could understand in the sense that Paul was so loved, and people were saying: 'How can she do Love Of Dogs when she doesn't have a dog? ".

Alison dismissed these critiques as "flawed" and had a straightforward message for detractors: "If you don't want to help Battersea, don't watch it," she declared.
