Chelsea will reportedly make a decision on the future of manager Mauricio Pochettino at the end of the season. The pressure is growing on the Argentine after his side were hammered 5-0 at Arsenal on Tuesday night, a result which left them languishing in ninth in the Premier League table.

That followed an FA Cup semi-final defeat to Man City on the weekend, a competition which represented their last chance of silverware in the 2023/24 season. And now according to the Telegraph, club bosses will sit down once the campaign is over and make a crunch decision on whether to relieve him of his duties.

The Blues have endured an erratic period since Pochettino took charge, failing to find consistency in the top flight and losing to an injury-ravaged Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final in February. They also face having to make player sales in the summer to avoid falling foul of the Premier League's new profit and sustainability regulations.

Despite the underwhelming results though, Todd Boehly and co are also said to be taking circumstances around Pochettino into account. Chelsea's much-maligned transfer policy under the American had been running for 12 months before Pochettino was appointed, with many arguing he needs time to unravel things at Stamford Bridge.

Boehly is set to be joined for the post-season review by co-owners Behdad Eghbali and Jose E Feliciano. Sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart are also likely to be involved in the decision-making process.

In the aftermath of the defeat at the Emirates, Pochettino appeared to call out the club hierarchy, implying that better structures needed to be put in place. And he also refused to blame the players for the current chaos.

That's despite admitting members of his squad 'gave up' during their latest humbling. Chelsea only trailed 1-0 at the break, before a calamitous second period saw them concede four times in 20 second-half minutes.

"The strategy for the future should be better, and in our analysis try to be very clinical in our decisions for the future to help not to be in this situation in the future," he said. "I'm not going to blame the players. The circumstances are bigger than the performances of the players. We cannot blame young guys."

The club are now up against it to qualify for European football next season ahead of a trip to in-form Aston Villa on Sunday. And missing out on the UEFA competitions will only serve to further pressurise the club's financial position, as well as Pochettino's.
