Channel 4 'axes' Danny Dyer series in replace of Paddy McGuinness show

Scared of The Dark Episode One preview

Channel 4 is reportedly axing Danny Dyer's new show after just one season. Scared of The Dark launched in April last year and saw eight celebrities being plunged into total darkness for several days.

The news was reported by Deadline on Tuesday 23 April that the show will not be returning to Channel 4, but another programme is set to be renewed for a second series.

Adventure reality show Tempting Fortune, hosted by Paddy McGuinness, is expected to return for another season after making its debut last year. The show saw 12 strangers trekking across South Africa in a bid to win a £300,000 jackpot.

Danny Dyer's show saw the likes of Olympian Nicola Adams, Love Island star Chloe Burrows, former super-middleweight boxer Chris Eubank, The Wanted’s Max George, and Gogglebox star Scarlett Moffatt all take part.

The show amassed over one million views, however, it is reportedly not being renewed. Meanwhile, the show Tempting Fortune is said to be getting an upgrade.

The second series is expected to extend to eight episodes, with a new set of contestants being dropped in a tropical location. There is no confirmation yet where the second season will be filmed.

Express.co.uk has contacted representatives of Paddy and Danny for comment.

This will be welcoming news for Paddy after the popular BBC series Top Gear was taken off air last year for the foreseeable. The show was relaunched in 2019 with Paddy, Freddie Flintoff, and Chris Harris as co-hosts.

Production has been on hold on the show since last year following a serious incident involving Freddie. Last year, he left the show after he was hospitalised following a car accident during filming at a test track in Surrey.

According to The Sun, Paddy has admitted that communication has "gone quiet" with his former co-star.

He told the publication: "Who knows what he [Freddie] must be going through. I still see his wife and we still chat, and we have the same barber, and it's all lovely.

"I messaged Fred recently saying, 'Look, I can’t begin to think what you’re going through but rather than me bombarding you with loads of messages, which can be annoying, if you can’t be a***d with that, I’m always here. I hope you’re well and please God, I’ll see you soon'."
