Brentford striker Neal Maupay has mocked Antony on social media for his wild celebrations after Manchester United's narrow victory over Coventry City. The Red Devils scraped into the FA Cup final on penalties after throwing away a three-goal lead against their Championship opponents.

Antony has been widely criticised for showing a lack of class after Rasmus Hojlund scored the winning penalty for United. The majority of his team-mates were almost too embarrassed to celebrate but Antony gave it large, cupping his ears to the Coventry players as he wheeled away.

The winger's antics were almost universally condemned on social media, given the shame of United almost losing despite being three goals up with 20 minutes remaining. Maupay, who has a reputation for being a wind-up merchant, joined the criticism of Antony's behaviour by insisting that even he thought it was a step too far.

Taking to X, formerly Twitter, the Brentford ace said: "Just for the record, not even I would do this."

Maupay was not the only one to point the finger at Antony, who has scored just twice for United this season in a campaign to forget. Gabriel Agbonlahor, the former Aston Villa striker, suggested that Antony should be ashamed of himself in a scathing review of his post-match antics.

He wrote: "Antony cups his ears as he celebrates in front of Coventry players? Is this guy the most shameless flop ever to grace our beautiful league? Shame on you Antony, you wouldn't even start for Coventry you prat."

Ex-Coventry forward Clinton Morrison also took aim at Antony on BBC Radio 5 Live, saying: "He needs to concentrate on himself because he could be playing [in] the Championship next season."

Antony was introduced from the bench in the 66th minute of the match, when United were cruising thanks to goals from Scott McTominay, Harry Maguire and Bruno Fernandes. They went on to suffer a dramatic collapse as Coventry scored three times before the final whistle to force a period of extra time.

United went on to get a lucky break when Victor Torp's close-range finish was disallowed by VAR for a marginal offside in the build-up. The offside lines appeared to be drawn over Aaron Wan-Bissaka's foot, while the decision also sparked a debate over whether it was 'clear and obvious' enough to justify a VAR intervention.
