Liverpool star Harvey Elliott shows true colours with response to Fulham boos
Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott made a gracious gesture after his side’s win at Fulham on Sunday despite being barracked by the home fans for much of the afternoon. Elliott played 90 minutes as the Reds got their Premier League title challenge back on track at Craven Cottage, winning 3-1 with goals from Trent Alexander-Arnold, Ryan Gravenberch and Diogo Jota.

He was subjected to further ridicule after the break after side-footing a chance well wide from the edge of the area.
Elliott joined Fulham in 2018 and was only 15 when he made his first-team debut for the club in a EFL Cup third round tie at Millwall. He would go on to become the youngest ever Premier League player, at just 16 years and 30 days, when he appeared as a late substitute against Wolves.
But he played only one more top-flight game for the club before leaving for Anfield for an undisclosed fee in 2019. And that move seemingly still rankles with Fulham fans, given their actions on Sunday.

Following the final whistle, he removed his shirt and handed it to a young child in the home end, with the boy clearly delighted with his impromptu gift.
The actions of the England under-21 international were widely praised on social media, with users noting how he seemingly rose above the treatment of the Fulham fans. It was Elliott’s 48th appearance of the season for the Reds, where he has cemented himself as a crucial squad player under Jürgen Klopp.
While few could have blamed the star for making his move five years ago, at a time when the Cottagers had been relegated and Liverpool had just landed the Champions League, his transfer was still however surrounded by scrutiny.

Because Elliott was only 16 at the time and not yet a professional, his fee had to be determined by a tribunal. Following a lengthy case, in February 2021, the Independent Professional Football Compensation Committee eventually ruled that Liverpool would pay an undisclosed amount, later revealed to be £1.5 million, along with a potential £2.8m in bonuses.
Fulham fans have since argued that had Elliott chosen to sign a professional contract with Fulham before moving, the club would have received a vastly increased fee that would have countered the financial blow of going down. He’s since gone on to play 114 times for the Merseyside club, playing in two EFL Cup final wins.
