Emily Maitlis loses it over Suella Bravernman's return

Former BBC journalist Emily Maitlis is set to co-anchor Channel 4's general election coverage, the broadcaster has confirmed.

The 53-year-old, who announced her departure from the BBC in 2022, now co-hosts The News Agents podcast with Jon Sopel and Lewis Goodall.

Maitlis was recently portrayed in the Netflix film Scoop, which recounts her Newsnight interview with the Duke of York about his connections with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

She will be co-presenting the election special with Channel 4 News presenter and Strictly Come Dancing star Krishnan Guru-Murthy.

"I'm delighted to be bringing The News Agents to the heart of Channel 4 on this important night and to work with such an incredible cast of people. I cannot wait," she said.

Alastair Campbell and Rory Stewart, hosts of The Rest is Politics podcast, will join them throughout the evening, along with some familiar faces from Gogglebox.

Cathy Newman will be reporting from the Labour and Conservative campaign headquarters, while Clare Balding will analyse the incoming data.

Channel 4 News political editor, Gary Gibbon, will offer comprehensive analysis for the election coverage, and a team of reporters will be scattered across key count locations nationwide, ensuring all the drama unfolds live.

Adding to the enthusiasm, Stewart, 51, expressed: "I'm really looking forward to bringing the podcast to life on TV with Alastair live on Channel 4. Hopefully we can still disagree agreeably even in the heat of the electoral madness."
