ITV's Red Eye viewers fume 'pure bu****it' as they spot major flaw in new thriller

Red Eye: Season 1 trailer

Within the first few minutes of Red Eye, ITV viewers were thrown into chaos as Matthew Nolan (played by Richard Armitage) was injured and chased while in Beijing. As he crashed his car in the opening scenes, the next time fans saw the doctor was back in the UK.

However, complications arose when the officers at the airport escorted him to a separate room, accusing him of killing a woman after a body was found in the wreckage of his car. Despite protesting his innocence, he was told he must fly back to Beijing to face justice.

As DC Hana Li (Jing Lusi) is tasked with escorting him back to the country, it’s clear their journey won’t be straightforward. With a hooded stowaway and a suspicious air stewardess onboard, something’s not sitting right.

However, it wasn’t long before fans called out the ITV show for how he was being treated as he was denied a lawyer and a phone call throughout. Taking to Twitter to air their thoughts @Boatmanschild said: “Much as I love Richard Armitage, this is absolute BS. He hasn't even had a lawyer.”

@tufnelljimmy added: “The lack of any legal credibility in the plot of #RedEye is making it hard to enjoy. @Tom_Coughlan commented: “It might be fiction, but it would have been good if they made it slightly believable. A load of c**p so far."

@SternhammerWulf added: “Border Force may have the power of detention but they don’t have the investigative powers for murder. And they and the foreign office certainly can’t force him to return to China. They certainly can’t extradite him in a few hours. Pure bulls**t.”

@DebbieBlackma14 commented: “They're being rather blinkered not actually considering he could be innocent. He should be allowed a lawyer at least. Ulterior motives perhaps #RedEye”

Although @suzysasha enjoyed the show, they pointed out the same flaw commenting: “Good so far. But he shouldn't be running and acting guilty. And he surely must be able to get a lawyer or phone call.”

During the episode, tensions started to rise as Matthew was denied a phone call and a lawyer before being made to go back on the flight.

Making a brief escape, the doctor managed to cause a scene at the airport as he told passengers he was being wrongfully extradited to China without his legal rights.

With many people recording his outburst on their phones, the video started to spread on social media. After being dragged back on the plane by officers, they all settled into their long haul flight.

However, it’s clear someone is after the doctor as when he gave another male his meal, the passenger suddenly went into cardiac arrest before dying.

As the outcome was meant for Matthew, the question remains, who wants him dead and why?

A synopsis for the next episode reads: “Jess persuades her editor to give her a chance to write about the events on NCA 357, leading her to interview Hana's boss.

“Meanwhile, MI5 scramble for information after news of the on-board incident and Hana receives a surprising call from the agency's director Delaney.

“Back on the flight, Nolan is beginning to panic as he fears he is being framed and his life is in danger, pleading for the plane to be diverted.”

Red Eye continues Sunday April 28th on ITV from 9pm.
