Britain's Got Talent fans threaten to boycott series as they blast 'terrible' opening act
Britain's Got Talent viewers lashed out en masse after discovering that the first act to kick off this evening's entertainment was generated by AI. Taking to Twitter to condemn the stunt, which showed AI avatars giving the impression that the likes of Simon Cowell were belting out a tune, fans branded it "unoriginal".
"The first “talent” to be displayed to the world this year is AI-generated. I’m already so done with this show #BGT," one blasted. "Where was the talent in that? If this is the way is going then I'm off...... #BGT," another chimed in.
"How can a SnapChat filter be an act?!" a third exclaimed. "That's hardly talent... it's a bit of miming with some sort of AI camera stuff.... #britainsgottalent #bgt," a fourth disappointed fan agreed.
Another said: "What a terrible start. So the talent is actually the technology." One was even more forthright, simply slamming: "Stop with the AI b*****ks already!"

Other fans blasted that using artificial intelligence instead of real people made a "mockery" of recent "strikes and negotiations" over AI's impact on the creative professions.

It was announced yesterday that SAG-AFTRA (the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists) is in the process of striking a deal to protect singers over fears that distinctive celebrity voices could be exploited for others' commercial gain.
With all of this looming in the background, it's little wonder that some didn't have a sense of humour over AI avatars being portrayed as "talent".
However, some had a different gripe - that the AI act looked strikingly familiar.

"Simon saying this first #BGT act is original is a joke when there’s been the same thing on [the American version] #AGT two years ago. Honestly, BGT needs to be rested as it’s so stale," one fan griped.
Another agreed: "Same act that was on America Got Talent which was much better."
Meanwhile, the tweets condemning the use of AI on the show continued to pour on, with one fan complaining: "The 'judges filter' thing... The WORST thing I've ever seen on Britain's Got Talent. Absolutely brain-dead, pathetic, c**p. #BGT."
Almost no one has praised the act so far, although one viewer sat on the fence.
"AI singers performing "Greatest Showman" on #BGT?" they quizzed, before declaring: "This is either the best or worst technological advancement since sliced bread. I'm not sure which yet."
