Tottenham star Pedro Porro sends tell-tale message to Liverpool about Ruben Amorim

Tottenham defender Pedro Porro has offered Liverpool fans an insight on what to expect if Ruben Amorim replaces Jurgen Klopp next season. The Sporting boss is thought to have emerged as Liverpool's top choice after Xabi Alonso ruled himself out of the running earlier this month.

Amorim has gained plenty of admirers during his time at Sporting and Porro is among the players to have benefitted from working under the 39-year-old. Now at Tottenham, he believes Amorim shares a number of similarities with Ange Postecoglou and is convinced that he is destined for the very top.

Speaking about Amorim in an interview with Expresso, Porro said: "He is young, has a lot of ambition, a little bit like Ange Postecoglou here at Tottenham. He always wants more and that’s what puts him on the world’s lips and coveted by so many teams in Europe.

"He has a special way of working. He plays eye to eye against any opponent, which is also similar to what we do at Tottenham, there are several similarities. It is known and recognised how Sporting and Tottenham play. There is a clear identity, whether winning 5-0 or losing 5-0."

Amorim is close to leading Sporting to their second Portuguese title in four seasons, while they could also seal a league and cup double before the end of the campaign. They are seven points clear of Benfica with five games to go and will soon face Porto in the Taca de Portugal final.

The Sporting boss remains under contract until 2026 but refused to provide any assurances over his future when quizzed on Liverpool's interest earlier this month. He said: "No, I can't make any guarantees. Sporting are dealing with their future and I can't decide now because I gave my word, I can't go back on that.

"If I don't win trophies, I'm going to leave Sporting. That's been very clear since the start. I felt it was important to get that across to the players because we have to win. We want to win trophies and we'll decide on those things later. I'm not worried about that right now.

"The future has been planned for quite a long time. We're all together as a club and looking into all situations and what we want for next season, so that's the main reason why I can't guarantee anything. I said that to my players and as the leader I can't go back on my word, as hard as that may be."
