Real Madrid’s players showed a touch of class ahead of their crunch Champions League quarter-final against Manchester City this evening. The La Liga giants are level with City heading into the clash, with Jude Bellingham and co. hoping to defeat the reigning European Champions.

It’s less than one year since Pep Guardiola’s City side demolished Real in last season’s semi-final tie. The Premier League outfit ran riot at the Etihad Stadium, defeating the 14-time European Champions 4-0 during a humiliating evening for Carlo Ancelotti’s men.

Despite this, the Los Blancos players - many of whom were involved in last year’s loss - maintained their class ahead of this season’s meeting. Stars such as Vinicius Junior, Eduardo Camavinga and England international Bellingham could be seen walking around the City crest printed on the floor in the Blues’ tunnel.

The gesture is seen as a sign of respect in Spain, with Bellingham having gone viral earlier in the season, when the midfielder leapt over Atletico Madrid’s badge during a match against Real’s rivals. Even though the ex-Birmingham man has been in Spain for less than a year, Bellingham has been quick to adopt the practices of his Santiago Bernabeu team-mates.

Bellingham will be hoping to continue another Real Madrid tradition this evening, by helping the capital club to their 12th Champions League semi-final in 14 seasons. And ahead of the match against City, the ex-Borussia Dortmund ace spoke out about his decision to join the record European champions last summer.

The 20-year-old said: “I had good chats with clubs including Borussia Dortmund [about a new contract] and my family were great in helping me chew up that information because it’s difficult while you are still in the season to take in the information and process it and still have to play at the weekend or in the Champions League.

“I had conversations with other teams but when Madrid came in it was a no-brainer really. The size of the club, the project, the plan going forward, the chance to play with such amazing players. I just jumped at it. That’s why I made my decision.”

Real are looking to become the first team in 22 attempts to beat City in the Champions League, with the Blues’ last defeat in the competition coming against the Madrid-based outfit two years ago. However, a win for City would see them move two games behind Manchester United’s record for the longest unbeaten streak by an English club in continental history.
