BBC MasterChef viewers fume 'I could do better' as contestants fail simple task

Masterchef: Moment two aprons given out to successful contestants

MasterChef viewers were not impressed by the latest team of amateur cooks vying for the title in tonight's (April 16) episode of the BBC show. The contestants did their best to impress judges Gregg Wallace and John Torode but failed to resonate with the audience at home.

Fuming fans of the show took to X, formerly known as Twitter to slam their efforts. @clm2071 commented: "I've never said this before but I think they should put none of them through #MasterChef."

@sied_gymraeg pondered: "Luck of the draw, yes, but you just know that at some point there's going to be a first-round stacked full of far more talented chefs than tonight who won't make it to the quarter-finals. #MasterChef." @Arlene_HWycombe questioned: "Honestly how are these contestants chosen I could do better than them & I'm useless #Masterchef."

@helenruthfisher said: "Pretty sure that none of these contestants would have gone through if they’d have been in any other episode! #masterchef. She also asked: Can they decide they actually don’t want to give any more aprons? #masterchef," followed by a laughing emoji.

@bobbyp57 opined: "These have all the potential of being the weakest 6 so far. Poach an egg and you’re through #MasterChef." Meanwhile, sied_gymraeg commented on the relatively simple dishes they created, saying: "I reckon I could have got through tonight with beans on toast main followed by Angel Delight #MasterChef."

John seemed to agree with viewers when he questioned the group's inability to poach an egg.

They were presented with a brunch challenge but most of them failed to correctly cook the simple item.

"I'm surprised that not all of them knew how to poach an egg perfectly," he said to Gregg.

However, Gregg defended them saying: "Shall I tell you what the issue is? Stress and MasterChef nerves. That's what the issue is."

Despite the viewer backlash as always three of the hopefuls were put through to the quarter-final.

As part of the process, they were once again judged in the final round by previous MasterChef contestants.

This feature has proved hugely unpopular with viewers this season.

The next episode of MasterChef is on BBC One on Thursday at 9pm with previous episodes available on the BBC iPlayer.
