Antiques Roadshow guest staggers expert as true value of item bought for 50p unveiled
Antiques Roadshow expert Alexandra Aguilar asked a guest if she could buy their item for 50p before revealing the staggering value.
In a previously aired episode of the BBC show, the experts headed Powis Castle, one of the grandest historic houses in Wales. Alexandra was approached by a guest wanting to know the value of her jade pot.
Asked about how she came to own the unique antique, the guest admitting to picking it up at a car boot sale. The owner shocked the presenter when she revealed she purchased the ornament for just 50p.

Taking a closer look at the pot, Alexandra said: "The way of checking if it is jade is to find an area where you can with a little pin try and scratch it."

Alexandra Aguilar revealed the eye-watering value of the pot (Image: BBC)The expert began scratching the inside of the lid with a pin, quickly revealing to the audience that she couldn't mark it.
She explained: "I can’t scratch it, it’s jade. And so you’re right, this is a perfect example of jade. It’s typical of Indian [ornaments]."
"It's gorgeous, it's really beautiful," Alexandra quipped before asking: "Can I give you 50p for it?" The owner decided to politely decline the offer as the two giggled.
Sharing her valuation of the antique, the expert said: "Well, if you were to sell it at auction, you'd probably get a big more than 50p."
Alexandra added: "I guess you would get around £1,500." The stunned guest simply responded: "Wow!"

It comes after Antiques Roadshow presenter Fiona Bruce shared her thoughts about demands to modernise the BBC show, which has been on air since 1979.
In an unearthed podcast interview, radio host Jane Garvey suggested that the programme could gain a "brand new audience" that they had never targeted before.
"That could be the thing that takes us into a new demographic and the next thing I know it'll be on BBC Three!" Fiona mused. Jane joked: "No, they can't fit you in between a documentary about STDs and something about Stacey Dooley - it's a remarkable channel!"
