The Chase player struggles with Cash Builder round

The Chase viewers were left both bemused and frustrated as a player seemed to have an obsession with music icon Chaka Kahn. In the episode which aired on ITV on Monday (March 15) player Angus, who lives in Newcastle, took to the floor for his cashbuilder.

However, the care home worker seemed to be fixated on the chart-topping US funk and soul singer who enjoyed a huge number-one hit with Prince penned I Feel For You. On two separate occasions, he offered up her name instead of the answer or passing on the question.

This came after he had taken the low offer from the chaser Anne 'The Governess' Hegarty in an attempt to stay in the game. The first time he referenced the star occurred when host Bradley Walsh asked: "What tributary of the Yukon River gives its name to a Canadian gold rush." Angus replied: "Chaka Khan."

Just seconds later, he blurted out her name again when asked: "Which Brothers Grimm character gave a Queen three days to guess his name?" It didn't go unnoticed by viewers who took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to voice their confusion.

@RikLivetweet opined: "Saying Chaka Khan instead of "pass" is both edgy AND hilarious #TheChase." @Sallyroberts asked "Angus do you give “Chaka Khan” as the answer to everything? #TheChase."

@pavarottishighc was not amused demanding: "Stop saying Chaka Khan. It’s not funny. #thechase."

@Jonsta1990 observed: "Chaka Khan is Angus's go to answer #TheChase."

Meanwhile @ScottMoffett01 chimed in: "What the f*** is is up with the Chaka Khan? #thechase."

Although he managed to get to the final chase they only had three team members and their efforts to secure the £11,000 in the prize pot were in vain.

The group was easily caught by Anne who had plenty of time to spare as she swept the board.

As they looked despondent, host Bradley told them they would have needed at least "12 more [questions]" in order to have succeeded.

The Chase is on ITV on weekdays at 5pm.
