Death In Paradise's latest series concluded earlier this year with Ralf Little bowing out of the after four years. The 44-year-old hung up his police badge after playing DI Neville Parker, but fans are convinced Shirley Henderson will return to fill his boots.

The popular BBC show began in 2011 with DI Richard Poole (Ben Miller) taking over from the previous detective who was murdered. Despite not exactly being a fan of the island itself, he grew accustomed to the lifestyle and wanted to stay on as the leading detective.

But it wasn't too long before he became ill and in episode six called An Unhelpful Aid, DI Poole was unable to lead an investigation. Over the years there has been a string of detectives, but Ralf was the longest-serving.

He joined back in 2019 and became a beloved member of the cast, but has said he will never rule out a possible return. However eagle-eyed fans took to social media to share their thoughts on the latest recruit.

They strongly believe Harry Potter star Shirley, 58, will take on the role after being a perfect candidate. The actress played Detective Sergeant Angela Young from the British Police on the island of Saint Marie.

Fans took to Facebook to share their views after watching a series of re-runs from the programme's early days.

“Watching a classic episode of DS Angela young and thinks could be the new DI,” wrote one user.

While another agreed: “She was my favourite but then I think Shirley Henderson is an amazing actress. I think she could mellow over time and become more likeable once we get to know her.”

A third agreed and penned: “Shirley Henderson was terrific as usual.” Although others did not share the same opinion as one person expressed: “Oh no, never, horrid women. “

Another added: “Nope not a fan of hers. That would wreck the show." A third was left in agreement and said: “Gosh NO.”

During her time on the island of Saint Marie, she served as a superior to Dwayne Myers (played by Danny John-Jules) and Fidel Best (Gary Carr) due to Richard Poole's (Ben Miller) and Camille Bordey’s (Sara Martins) absence.

Young had been on holiday on the island of Saint Marie when a murder was committed.

At the time Commissioner Selwyn Patterson (Don Warrington) had asked her to step in as acting Chief of the Honoré police due to Pool’s absence.

Despite her efforts, she proved to be more of a hindrance on the case and appeared a little difficult to work with. Young often spoke in a condescending tone towards the local officers and demanded their respect, leading to tensions within the team.
