Doorbell cameras and CCTV regularly catch thieves nicking packages from doorsteps, sometimes as soon as they’ve been delivered.

With the proliferation of surveillance at private homes and in public spaces, it’s much harder to get away with such crimes.

But some crafty criminals have found a way to avoid being identified – by disguising themselves as a bin bag.

Omar Gabriel Munoz was baffled when he couldn’t find a parcel containing had two iPhone chargers on the doorstep of his California home last month.

He’d received a notification telling him it had been delivered, so surely it must be there.

Maybe the wind blew it away, he thought until he watched the footage from his door camera.

Then his anger disappeared.

What he saw was a pair of white shoes poking from the bottom of a black bin bag shuffling towards his door.

The person underneath, clearly hunched over, slowly makes there way back down the concrete path after claiming their prize.

Munoz told Fox News: ‘At first I was kinda angry but when I saw the video again I was laughing because people [these] days have a lot of creativity.’

He added: ‘That was a good one.’

Video footage of the theft has since gone viral on social media.

This wasn’t even the first time Munoz has been the victim of doorstep thieves.

The last time was when he lived in coastal San Jose.

It wasn’t long after he moved to Sacramento, some 89 miles away, that it happened.

He’s decided not to report the bin bag burglar to police because ‘have more important things to do’.

Instead, he just re-ordered the chargers, worth just £8, from the online retailer Temu.
