Rebecca Bissonnet, the latest addition to The Repair Shop's team of experts, boasts an impressive resume in textiles, including work on Queen Elizabeth's coronation dress and a unique connection to Kate Middleton.

The textile connoisseur is set to join the show on Sunday, 24 April, but her journey to the beloved BBC series was almost derailed by a slice of cherry cake. "The Repair Shop rang me as they were looking for a textiles expert," she told the Express.

"They had found my details through my website and I actually missed the call because I had just popped next door to the village shop to buy cherry cake!" Luckily, she returned the call just in time and secured her spot on the show after a successful Zoom meeting.

Rebecca opened up about the filming experience, acknowledging the complexity and satisfaction involved in the restoration process. "Some of the stuff brought in would be so expensive to fix, as it's so time heavy," she said.

"So we're helping restore, repair and conserve items, giving conservation to people that may not necessarily have the resources to have them restored themselves and it means they'll now be future-proofed and be around for years to come."

In her second episode, Rebecca will face the intricate task of repairing a damaged Irish dancing dress, showcasing the diverse and intriguing challenges she will encounter. But there's more to learn about Rebecca Bissonnet let's delve deeper....

Rebecca launched her career in textiles after finishing an apprenticeship at the Royal School of Needlework, later earning a Masters of Art in Textile Conservation in 2004, OK! reports.

Her impressive portfolio includes working with a variety of textiles, from Bagpuss and tapestries to dresses and furnishings. For 11 years, Rebecca worked on short contracts and freelanced before landing the prestigious role of Textile Treatment Supervisor at Historic Royal Palaces.

In this position, Rebecca and her team were responsible for the care of state beds and throne canopies at Hampton Court and Kensington Palace. Her work also involved handling countless invaluable items, including Queen Elizabeth's coronation dress.

She was part of the embroidery team that worked on Kate Middleton's Alexander McQueen wedding gown. Reflecting on her time at Historic Royal Palaces, Rebecca stated: "I spent seven years managing a team of conservators in the care of tapestries and furnishings."

"The role involved more managing than hands-on work, and I decided I wanted to return to what I thought I was better at, which was the hands-on work. So, a couple of years ago I went self-employed and set up my own business. A year into my business, I got my first studio - after twenty years! I was pretty happy."

Rebecca's unique perspective will undoubtedly add value to the BBC show, where she is set to join the crew later this month.

Her new co-star, Jay Blades, was full of praise for Rebecca, stating: "It was great to welcome Rebecca to the barn, she just fitted like a glove and it's always so special to be able to learn different skills from different people."
