Kit Harington's devastating update as Game of Thrones Jon Snow spin-off is 'off the table'

Kit Harington teases Jon Snow ‘spin-off’ Kit Harington, who played the iconic Jon Snow for eight seasons of Game of Thrones, was set to star in a spin-off sequel focused on his character.

While the highly-anticipated project was speculated to be in the works for the last few years, Screen Rant recently sparked chaos in the fanbase after reporting that the series was taken out of active development by HBO.

The 37-year-old has shared a devastating update confirming the sad news himself, adding that it was never a done deal to begin with.

The actor revealed he had avoided speaking publicly about the show while it was in development because he didn’t want fans getting all worked up “when it may never happen”.

With utter finality, he declared: “It's off the table.”

The outlet noted that Game of Thrones writer George R.R. Martin simply didn’t have enough material for the character after the events of the main series, and after a lot of back and forth it was ultimately decided they would put a stop to the project altogether.

However, Kit revealed there’s still hope.

He added: “'There may be a time in the future where we return to it.”

This update marks another step back for the fanbase, who are still waiting on a new novel from the world-famous author.

2024 marked 13 years since George added to his A Song of Ice and Fire series, although he has two novels in the pipeline that reportedly formed the backbone of the TV show’s final two seasons.

As the New Year rolled around, the author revealed his next installment, The Winds of Winter, would not be receiving a release date any time soon as he is seemingly distracted by the other projects in the franchise.

The 75-year-old announced some “animated projects” from the GOT universe but admitted: “None of them have been greenlit yet.”

The Game of Thrones franchise is still going strong with the House of the Dragon prequels which has fans preparing for the release of season two in summer.
