INEOS are still yet to decide whether to relieve Erik ten Hag of his duties as manager of Manchester United, according to reports. The Dutchman appears to be facing an uncertain future at Old Trafford, with Sunday's draw against Liverpool doing little to ease speculation that he could be sacked in the summer.

United were firmly second best for the majority of the contest apart from a spell of around 20 minutes in the second half. They failed to register a single shot in the opening 45 minutes and recorded an expected goals tally of just 0.71, which paled in comparison to Liverpool's total of 3.57.

A major criticism of Ten Hag has been his failure to implement a clear playing style or show any kind of progress on the pitch since taking over at United two years ago. Their lacklustre fortunes have led to speculation that Sir Jim Ratcliffe could decide to wield the axe in the summer and replace him with a new manager.

A number of high-profile names have already been linked with the United job, including the likes of Germany boss Julian Nagelsmann and England head coach Gareth Southgate. However, according to Fabrizio Romano, those in power at United are not speaking to any potential candidates at this stage.

It is said that INEOS are keeping their options open after having 'positive discussions' with Ten Hag regarding his future at Old Trafford. He remains tied down until the summer of 2025 as things stand, with United retaining the option to extend his deal by another 12 months.

The report adds that if United decide they want Nagelsmann in the dugout next season, they will need to act quickly to stand the best chance of securing his signature. There is said to be a chance that he could sign a new deal with Germany after this summer's Euros or return to Bayern Munich when Thomas Tuchel steps down later this year.

It remains to be seen whether INEOS will eventually decide to appoint a new manager ahead of next season or give Ten Hag one more year to get things right. He recently issued a defiant response to the speculation around his future by insisting that he fully expects to remain in charge past the end of the campaign.

"I don't have any doubts," Ten Hag told Sky Sports. "I'm just focusing on my job, focusing on this process, in this project. I really love to be here, I'm enjoying it. For me it's a challenge.

"It will not go always in the right way, it's not going always the results in the way we wanted, but I'm sure we're in the right direction and we will get where we want to be."
