Ajax’s managerial search looks set to continue as they have reportedly been turned down by ex-Chelsea manager Graham Potter. The Eredivisie outfit are looking to replace John van 't Schip this summer after he revealed that he will not remain at the Johan Cruyff Arena beyond this season.

Ajax are in major need of a rebuild, with the club currently sitting in sixth place in the Eredivisie and looking like a shadow of the team that was capable of challenging both domestically and on the European stage.

A 6-0 defeat at the hands of rivals Feyenoord on Sunday only underlined the issues in Amsterdam further, and any managerial targets will be aware of the significant size of the challenge at hand before putting pen to paper with the Dutch side.

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag and Liverpool assistant Pep Lijnders are among those who have been linked with Ajax this summer, though alternative options are also being explored.

Former Brighton manager Potter is among those to have reportedly held talks about joining Ajax but Sky Sports reports that the Englishman has decided to turn down the approach rather than taking up his first new role since being axed by Chelsea.

The 48-year-old has been out of work for 12 months despite being linked with numerous new projects, with the ex-Swansea City boss keen to ensure that the next step in his career is the right one. He endured an underwhelming stint at Stamford Bridge which damaged his reputation markedly.

Potter was sacked after just seven months with the Blues after struggling to deal with the immense squad size at the club.

The sheer number of players at his disposal led to issues and prevented the manager from truly implementing his intricate possession-based system as he was being forced to cater to such a huge group in training sessions.

Manchester United are one club who could throw Potter a lifeline this summer, having previously been linked with acquiring his services.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe is said to be a fond admirer of the out-of-work coach, having attempted to lure him to the Ligue 1 with Nice before he managed to buy a stake in the Red Devils.
