Chelsea star Enzo Fernandez 'angry' after snatching late win over Man Utd

Chelsea star Enzo Fernandez vented about his team’s Premier League position in the aftermath of their dramatic late comeback over Manchester United. At Stamford Bridge, the visitors were leading up until deep into stoppage time, but goals in the 100th and 101st minutes from Cole Palmer sealed a last-gasp victory to send the home crowd into raptures.

Palmer’s deflected strike was the latest Premier League winning goal in the competition’s history and ensured that Chelsea kept up their strong home record. The Blues have lost just one home league game since October and will hope that three points can kickstart their campaign and propel themselves up the table.

Mauricio Pochettino’s outfit moved back up to tenth place after another dissatisfying season. They are just five points behind sixth-placed United, however, with a game in hand, and the squad will be determined to end the campaign on a positive note.

Despite the dramatic win, frustration was clear to see shortly after the full-time whistle blew on a historic Stamford Bridge night, with Fernandez furious with Chelsea’s results since he arrived in league for a then-English record transfer fee.

"Yes, of course I'm enjoying the Premier League but obviously I don't like our place in the standings, not at all,” Fernandez told DAZN Portugal. “I don't like that place, I like to win, not losing. And seeing ourselves in that position angers me and my teammates. But we have to accept it's a process and let's hope next season will be much better for us."

Despite the £1billion-plus invested in players by Todd Boehly and co, Fernandez is aware that many of his fellow new signings are young players with bags of potential. However, sometimes that talent needs to be nurtured before it excels on the biggest stage and Pochettino knows that his squad need to learn from such a blockbuster evening.

“Football is about to entertain and spectacle, to score goals, to feel the passion, the team needs to translate to the fans,” the Argentine said in his post-match press conference. “The fans will be connected with the team with the way the team started the game today.

“We always want that. I like to score goals. I don't like to concede goals, like today. We are one of the youngest teams in Europe. We need to grow from this sort of experience.”

But Pochettino will be buoyed that one of his key players in Fernandez is not getting carried away with the ecstasy of such a late comeback and instead remains focused on the task at hand, putting Chelsea back towards the top of the table.
