Manchester United will return to the striker market this summer in search of some worthy competition for Rasmus Hojlund, who has been left to operate the position by himself in his first season in England. Rodrigo Muniz is lighting up the Premier League at Fulham, and he reportedly dreams of completing a transfer to United.

Hojlund arrived at Old Trafford last summer as a raw talent whose £72million fee primarily represented the potential he had displayed at FC Copenhagen, SK Sturm Graz and Atalanta BC.

Erik ten Hag was expected to ease him into his team, with Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford continuing their regular striker shifts throughout the season.

However, Martial's injury issues have re-emerged, limiting him to just seven starts in all competitions and leaving him almost guaranteed to be released this summer.

Rashford has struggled to build on his career-best 30-goal 2022/23 season, only scoring eight times, and has stuck to the left, leaving Hojlund as Ten Hag's sole striker option for most of the campaign.

The 21-year-old has shown glimpses of his class, becoming the youngest-ever player to score in six consecutive Premier League games earlier this year. He is United's top goalscorer with 13.

However, Hojlund needs support and competition, and United are said to have prioritised a striker alongside a centre-back in the first summer transfer window of Sir Jim Ratcliffe's rule.

Many of the Red Devils' reported early transfer targets currently play in the Premier League, and it would be surprising if Muniz wasn't included on Ten Hag's striker shortlist.

The 22-year-old scored his first Premier League goal in February after a difficult start to top-flight life at Fulham, which included a below-par loan at Middlesbrough last term.

Since then, he has scored eight goals in as many games, becoming the competition's top scorer in 2024.

According to Marca, Muniz has dreamt of taking his goalscoring exploits to United since playing for Flamengo and Coritiba in his homeland, Brazil.

Muniz's latest contribution—an incredible stoppage-time bicycle kick to rescue a 3-3 draw at Sheffield United—further boosted his ever-growing reputation.

"In training, he does it often. For me, it is a great satisfaction because I saw something in him, and I pressured the club to sign him," Fulham manager Marco Silva raved after that acrobatic strike.

The South American star, under contract at Craven Cottage until 2026, reportedly idolised former United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic as a child.

Silva has backed him to only improve from here, which could represent a shrewd opportunity for United in the market this summer.
